At the Little Pioneers School House we have developed an integrated curriculum that encompasses comprehensive educational components. Each component supports academic, social, and emotional development and is based on the principle that the child is the focal point. We implement our curriculum through each students’ needs to create success in each component.
Our curriculum blends together a focus on social and emotional growth, reading enrichment and the needs and interests of the individual. Miss Britt selects a theme, which becomes the core of our discoveries and our widening world. A theme can last anywhere from two weeks to one month and covers topics from outer space to the bugs in our own backyard. We use literature, songs, our local community, and fieldtrips to make the subject matter relevant and really come to life for the children. One simple children’s story can lead to cooking classes, art projects and dramatic play. Our theme based design allows parents to reinforce ideas and participate in the child’s discovery process at home.
Our classroom helps guide this curriculum by ensuring that your child has opportunities to grow and learn in all areas. We approach each learning component uniquely; however our goal is always to create a spark in your child’s imagination and heart.
Literature and Language - Listen - speak - read - write. For the preschool age child, language development and the subsequent love of literature is crucial. We enrich our themes through stories, plays, puppets, storyboards and the introduction of new vocabulary. We practice our early reading skills through our letter boxes, letter books and sound games. We provide daily activities to expand the understanding of language and literacy. Listening skills are also important, and our teachers are gifted storytellers! Books are read aloud each day reinforcing the current theme of the classroom. Story time is often a child’s most treasured time of the day.
